Compressor Tool Directions & Assembly of Base
START by inserting the threaded rod through the underside of the base. Put 1 flat washer on and the ¾” nut. Be sure to tighten the threaded rod into the base. NEXT: Install the second ¾” flat washer on top of the nut. (The clutch will set on the washer.)
SECONDARY CLUTCH: Once you have the helix compressed enough to remove the retainer clips, start backing off the nut slowly. Watch the helix as you back off the nut to be sure that it is rising up out of the clutch housing. If the nut starts turning freely, and the helix has not risen, tap the helix gently with a piece of wood or something that will not damage the helix. Sometimes the helix will bind when coming out or going into the clutch housing and can be dangerous due to the spring pressure underneath it. Primary clutch does not pose this problem.
NOTE: You will not use the 3 finger part of the compressor for the Primary Clutch. Use the ¾” flat washer and the nut/handle for this.
When changing the spring in the primary, tighten the tool down onto the spring cup, and then remove the three screws. When re-installing the spring and governor cup, compress the cup just enough to start the three allen screws. Once the screws are started, tighten the nut a little more. Continue this until the screws are tight. Make sure not to bind the three screws against the cup when re-installing.
